Sydney City Solartint Wins Sales Contest Down Under

Madico has organized a Solartint dealer network meeting in Sydney, Australia the past few years, in conjunction with our Australasian distributor – MEP Films. (Our products are sold in Australia under the Solartint brand name).

Last year, in April 2015, the event featured architectural window film technical education. Michael Lyons, Director of Asia/Pacific Sales, and Carl Kernander, Technical Services Manager, represented Madico.  There was such a good dealer turnout that the fairly large training room at MEP Films’ sales office/service center was packed like a can of sardines.

At the end of an evening full of good information and lively discussion, we announced a sales growth contest to the audience: Madico was offering an expense-paid round trip to/from St. Petersburg to visit the factory, to the Solartint dealer that would have the best percentage increase in Madico purchases the remainder of the year.

And the incentive offer accomplished its objective. Despite a sluggish automotive aftermarket and a contracting economy is Australia, Madico bucked the trend and achieved sales growth in 2015.

Leading the way with a remarkable performance – a whopping 171% vs. prior year purchases – was Sydney City Solartint. Congratulations to owners, Kenny and Renee Benson! “First class people and loyal Madico customers. Well deserved,” said Warren Koopmans, General Manager of MEP Films.

Congratulations also goes out to Solartint Parramatta for their second place finish – 112% vs. prior year. Well done!

Fast forward to Spring 2016 … we recently had the pleasure of hosting Kenny and Renee in the Sunshine State in April. After making the 24-hour journey from Sydney, our guests enjoyed their stay in a 747 Suite at the Bilmar Beach Resort in Treasure Island, just a short 15 minute drive from Madico’s factory/office.

They also spent several hours at Madico. Some of their plant visit was talking about business – we learned a lot about Sydney City Solartint and hope they learned a little about Madico.  “I’m particularly impressed with how they’re using the Premium IR films to upsell and grow their business with more profitable installation work.  I hope other dealers in the Solartint network take notice and follow Sydney City’s lead”, said Michael Lyons, Director of Asisa/Pacific Sales.

Kenny and Renee also toured Madico’s ISO 9001 and 14001 certified factory, where they “gowned up” and went into the coating and laminating clean room manufacturing environment to see up-close how window film is made. “It was such an incredible experience. Awesome”, said Kenny.  “With the extra knowledge we have learned,” added Renee, “We are now more capable and confident to better educate our customers on the need for quality window film applications.”

One night we went to a Major League Baseball game at Tropicana Field to watch the Tampa Bay Rays battle the Toronto Blue Jays. The Rays scored two runs in the bottom of the 8th inning for an exciting come-from-behind 3-2 victory.  “I think they really enjoyed the atmosphere and action on the field.  Kenny is a big cricket fan, and we talked about the similarities and differences between baseball and cricket – it was interesting conversation and a good time,” according to Lyons.

Florida is a boater’s paradise, so another night we assembled a small group and went boating on Boca Ciega Bay and Tampa Bay – spotting dolphins along the way – and saw a beautiful sunset over the Gulf of Mexico. Then we docked at a local restaurant for refreshments and a casual seaside dinner.  “It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to get to know Kenny and Renee.  Though it was the first time many of us had met, we quickly were able to get comfortable.  “We really enjoyed their visit,” said Jeffrey Plummer, Sr. V.P. of Sales & Marketing.

To wrap up their trip, Kenny and Renee drove across the Mojave Deseret to Southern California and stayed four days in the Huntington Beach area. More rest and recreation … but they also found time to visit a couple local tint shops for some “trade talk” before returning to Oz.

A long journey, for sure. But overall, a great experience – and good memories!  “We were delighted to host the Benson’s visit.  Kenny and Renee are true professionals and we greatly appreciate their business.  It’s an honor for Madico to be associated with Sydney City Solartint,” beamed Lyons.
