Mass-Brazil Innovation Mission: Day One
After many hours flying from Boston to Washington, to São Paulo, to Brazilia, Bob Connelly, Madico President and CEO made it to the start of the Massachusetts Brazil Innovation Economy Mission event.
“We met with Governor Deval last night and we had a pretty vigorous schedule today. He reinforced that we are here to represent the state and that we are trying to “sell” the various factions on the viability of commerce between Mass and Brazil.
Some of the highlights from today’s schedual:
• Met with the Ministry of Science and Technology or Brazil’s NCI, (National Confederation of Industry). The groups in the delegation are divided into Science and technology, Clean energy, and academic & Arts concentrations. I went to NCI, as it coordinated best with a later meeting on Clean energy policy development.
• Met with the Minister of Mines and energy. 170 million in Brazil use a lot of energy. Hydro = 80% ; some Bio, and lots of sugar–ethanol. All of which in my humble opinion produce air quality issues. Solar does not. I want to stress this with the policy makers.
• Attended Welcome reception by United States Ambassador Thomas Shannon, at his Residence.”
